Investment management firm, Allan Gray, has created an online tutorial called ‘Investing Explained’. The website boasts short videos, which cover key investment themes and questions such as ‘unit trust basics’, ‘what is investing?’ and ‘what unit trusts invest in’. Consumers access the videos through the following link: http://www.allangray.co.za/investingexplained/

When asked what prompted them to create such a website, Allan Gray said: “We identified a need for client education based on client surveys and feedback from investors and financial advisers. We created Investing Explained to answer this need as we believe that informed investors make better investment decisions. We also recognise that investing can appear intimidating to novice investors who see the process as too complicated.”

Allan Gray added that consumers that didn’t understand the basics when it came to investing. “Client surveys and feedback have indicated poor investment understanding among some of our investors. We believe that in the general public lack of understanding is one of the biggest barriers to investing,” it said.

The firm admitted that it would create further online guides. “We are planning other investor education initiatives, including enhancing Investing Explained. We are already busy with phase two, which will include more videos and an interactive section.”
