MTN upgrades may cause streaming disruptions

Mobile network service provider MTN announced in March that it planned to invest R10 billion “to improve the coverage and quality of its network.”
 
According to MTN, “this massive investment has been allocated for infrastructure upgrades across the country in order to optimise the network and provide better service and connectivity to our customers.”

MTN pointed out: “We are currently upgrading our DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) connectivity and this might result in intermittent service disruption when streaming on certain website in the areas where upgrades have not taken place.”
 
Several provinces have already had successful grades to their infrastructure during the past week. These include Kwa-Zulu Natal, Northern Province, Mpumalanga, as well as Centurion in Gauteng.
 
The upgrades have been implemented to ensure that “the network is of an acceptable standard and is capable of satisfying [the] needs of the customers.”
 
MTN added: “It must be noted that in the event of a power failure, MTN base station are powered by batteries or generators and part of our investment is to ensure that all base stations are capacitated with the necessary batteries and generators.”
 
Justmoney contacted MTN for additional comment but they had not responded at the time of publication.
