How do I check my credit profile?
Many South Africans surprisingly seldom check their own personal credit profile. The Credit Bureau records all your credit applications, credit agreements, payment history and payment behaviour, as well as other credit related information. If you default on payments your credit profile is affected. While adverse legal information is cleared as soon as the account is settled, the negative repayment history however remains for a couple years. We advise you check your credit profile at least once a year. It is free and available through one of several credit bureaux such as TransUnion, Experian or Compuscan.
