From 7 December to 30 December 2015, Telkom is running a promotion offering Telkom ShowMax customers a month’s free access to the video-on-demand service.
In a joint statement released by ShowMax and Telkom, it noted: “New and existing Telkom Summer Unlimited users will have unlimited data to stream content on ShowMax, and in addition to this Telkom is gifting 30 days’ ShowMax access to all customers that sign up for the SmartHome Premium or Smartplan 100 plan from today until the end of December 2015.”
John Kotsaftis, GM of ShowMax South Africa, said: “SVOD (subscription video on demand) is a relatively new concept in South Africa with data usage and concerns over data caps being the main barriers to adoption. In the four months since we launched ShowMax, the clear message is that people love the concept and the content, and now all they need is a solution on the data side of things. This is why these Unlimited Telkom products are so important.”
The promotion
Subscription video on demand (SVOD) is becoming increasingly popular globally. However, in South Africa concerns of data usage, as well as the internet connection are a challenge to these services. Shortly after ShowMax launched this year, the Altech Node was taken off the market, stating that they had overestimated the readiness of the market.
Telkom and ShowMax believe that their partnership will help to overcome these concerns and challenges.
“Existing Telkom fixed broadband customers can upgrade to a package with 10Mbps or above and subscribe to the Telkom Internet Uncapped Entertainment Service. New Telkom fixed broadband customers can subscribe to Telkom’s SmartHome Premium package, which includes the Telkom Internet Uncapped Entertainment Service for 24 months. New mobile customers can subscribe to the Smart Plan 100 package which includes Unlimited Telkom data until 31 March 2016,” explained Telkom in a statement.
Telkom Consumer MD, Attila Vitai, said: “The move to video on demand is happening across the globe, and we think it’s going to change the way people experience shows and movies in South Africa. These Unlimited offerings will let Telkom customers immerse themselves without worrying about data usage or data costs.
“With Summer unlimited campaign in full swing, Telkom and ShowMax are the perfect combination to catch up on your favourite shows, discover new series and movies, and keep the family entertained,” stated Vitai.
Furthermore, Telkom is giving 30 days’ ShowMax access to all customers that sign up for the SmartHome Premium or Smartplan 100 plans from 7 December to the end of December 2015.
