Altech subscribers to remain with current network providers

By Jessica Anne Wood

Altech Autopage is looking at selling its subscriber base and exiting the cell phone market and potential buyers for this list include MTN, Vodacom and Cell C. However, the case was taken to the Competition Commission by Saicom Voice Services.

The Commission originally approved the transaction, which was then appealed by Saicom and taken to the Competition Tribunal. Earlier this week, the Tribunal rejected Saicom’s opposition to the transaction taking place, according to a report.

However, the sale has not yet been agreed between the parties involved. When Justmoney asked Altech what would happen to customers contracts once the sales goes through, the company explained: “Altech Autopage customers will remain on the same network that they are currently on. Customers currently have a contractual agreement with Altech Autopage with specific terms and conditions regarding the duration of the contract. These Terms and Conditions and contract duration remain in force and will be transferred as is to the respective network operators as they are.”

The company did not state how many subscribers would be affected by the potential sale of the Altech Autopage subscriber base.

Altech Autopage added that it will await the final decision by the Competition Tribunal before commenting further.
