South African Airways’ (SAA) Voyager Miles rewards programme has partnered with the hotel loyalty programme, Marriott Rewards.
Marriott Rewards members will now have the option of earning Voyager Miles when staying at more than 4,000 Marriott hotels across the 17 global brands that make up the Marriott International group.
Mark Satterfield, chief operating officer for Marriott International, Middle East and Africa, and Marriott International’s Business Leader for Protea Hotels, noted: “Since this includes stays at Protea Hotels in South Africa or in the seven other African countries where we have hotels, it’s a significant benefit for South African travellers. Many South Africans who travel regularly, especially business travellers, have long been members of SAA Voyager so those who are also members of Marriott Rewards will now be able to maximise their Voyager earnings for doing something they do anyhow – stay in a hotel when they are away from home.”
The rewards programmes
Both these programmes offer members points for when they make use of the services offered by the companies. These points can then be redeemed for a number of things, such as airfare, car hire, and hotel stays.
With the new joint venture between these two rewards programmes, Marriott Rewards members can now choose to redeem their Marriott Rewards points for SAA Voyager Miles. “This creates greater versatility for our members regarding how they use their points,” revealed Satterfield.
In addition offering Marriott Rewards member more options for how to redeem their points, it also opens a new market to SAA. “The partnership with Marriott Rewards has the potential to open up an enormous new market: the 55 million members of the Rewards programme internationally. Through selecting to redeem their points in the form of Voyager Miles, these members could well become a new customer base for South Africa’s national carrier,” stated Marriott.
When staying at a Protea Hotel, Marriott Rewards members will be able to earn one point for every US$1 spent at the hotel.
