More data at a lower price with Cell C

Local cell phone network provider Cell C has launched five LTE packages, offering consumers higher speed data services at a lower price. The new LTE plans provide data at a cost of between one and two cents per megabyte (MB). According to Cell C, these new plans are ideally suited for use in home, home office and small business environments.

Cell C CEO Jose Dos Santos noted: “Our efforts over the last few years have been focused on rolling out a highly-advanced data network offering LTE and LTE-Advanced services to keep up with the growing demands of a connected South Africa.”

The new LTE Power Plans

The new plans offer data charges at less than two cents per MB, with the 100GB and 200GB plans offering data at less than one cent per MB. The new plans and prices are as follows:

  • LTE Power Plan 15GB for R299 per month
  • LTE 25GB for R499 per month
  • LTE 50GB for R699 per month
  • LTE 100GB for R999 per month
  • LTE 200GB for R1499 per month

There are more than 2200 Cell C LTE base stations across South Africa, with LTE-Advanced coverage in Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg. The company is continuing its investment in LTE and LTE-Advanced in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo, along with other regions across the country.

“More of our customers are now benefiting from very fast LTE and LTE-Advanced data speeds and are consuming more data than ever before. With this in mind, we have developed new LTE data products to allow our customers to use more data for less,” revealed Dos Santos.

A changing landscape

Dos Santos pointed out that the roll out of fibre to the home has been a slow process. Cell C is continually looking to ensure customers retain the nest value, even when using more data than they did previously. For customers who do not yet have access to fibre or ADSL at home, Cell C noted that it now offers a viable fixed mobile solution with its new LTE Power Plans.

The new plans are 24-month contracts, however, if customers wish to cancel their contract for any reason, they will simply have to give 30 days’ notice, and no cancellation fees will apply, according to Cell C.

Cell C highlighted: “The LTE products are designed as a fixed LTE solution and will be restricted to LTE data usage only. Customers will not be able to use the product on Cell C’s 2G or 3G network or make calls using the LTE Power Plan products.”
