💡 Smart Budget Tip: With contributions starting from R3,092 per month, use the JustMoney Budget Calculator to plan how this fits with your other expenses, savings goals, and financial commitments.
How does the upfront savings account work? Your annual MSA allocation (25% of total contributions) is paid upfront at the beginning of each year, giving you immediate access to funds for day-to-day medical expenses rather than waiting for monthly allocations.
What happens to unused savings? Unused funds accumulate year after year and belong to you. If you resign from the plan, unused savings are refunded after a 4-month claims run-off period.
Can I upgrade my plan later? Yes, you can upgrade to a higher Sizwe Hosmed plan during the annual open enrollment period or following a qualifying life event like marriage or the birth of a child.
What if my savings run out? Once your MSA is depleted, certain benefits like basic dental care, optical benefits, and limited GP visits are covered from scheme risk. However, most day-to-day expenses will then be out-of-pocket until the next year's allocation.
Are chronic medications covered? Yes, all 26 PMB chronic conditions are covered from scheme risk (not from your MSA), and 8 additional non-CDL chronic conditions are covered from your savings account.
